Dear friends,
Too much has been said on Jai's works. Here'sanother .......now available at wl fine arts.
BIO: JAI
Jalaini Abu Hassan or “Jai” was born in Selangor, Malaysia in 1963,but spent most of his childhood in Taiping. He found his artisticvocation early in life, around the age of seven, and to this day hiswork carries a sense of immediacy, a love of shapes and familiarobjects engendered
in those childhood years.
In 1985 he took his BA in Fine Art at MARA Institute of Technology, and was awarded a Malaysian Federal Scholarship to continue hisstudies in the UK. In 1988, he gained his MA from the prestigiousSlade School in London. Awarded a MARA Scholarship to study in theUSA, he then took his Master of Fine Art degree at New York's famousPratt Institute, graduating in 1994.
Jai's career as an artist has been on the rise ever since. Thecombination of an innate sense of the local with a mature, powerfulgrasp of composition and painting technique has made him a leader inMalaysia's contemporary art scene, heralded by critics, collectors, and fellow artists alike.
Jai's work has essentially revolved around objects - as symbols, asforms, as keys to personal memory, as artefacts of daily lifeyesterday and today. In the grand tradition of the still life genre inpainting, the artist is constantly stretching the visual possibilitiesof his subject. While early charcoal works focussed on monumentalnatural forms, his painting since has been concerned with relatingeveryday objects, or objects from memory to each other in an open narrative.
Jai has exhibited in Malaysia, Singapore, America and the UK and alsoin Spain and Iraq. His works are in the collection of the National ArtGallery in Malaysia and in private, corporate and gallery collectionsaround the world. The artist is currently teaching at UiTM.

SEWA SENI - THE EASY WAY TO RENT ORIGINAL ART

SEWA SENI
THE EASY WAY TO RENT ORIGINAL ART
SEWA SENI is a special package that rents art to individuals and businesses in Malaysia on short or long leases. We also offer a change of artworks every 4 months if you ride on a year long contract. Perfect if you are presenting your home for sale, decorating your work place may it be your average office, a café cum restaurant, a shopping mall or just spoiling yourself for a while. Our monthly payment plans make managing your cash flow easy. You can rent a RM$1000 painting for as low RM$65 @ month. We also provide the option of purchasing the paintings if the need arises with a very good discount. This not only gives your establishment an edge against the competition but also an avenue for extra revenue when the painting is sold to a customer of yours.
Getting started:
Come visit us at our gallery located along Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Browse through the collection until you find perfect artworks. If an artwork is available for rent, consult our person in charge and the paintings chosen can be on your wall within a week. Not to worry about installation and so forth as we have with us skilled installers and transporters. You can also ask for a cd to view our paintings. If you have any questions, do forward us an e-mail or call us at 012-2355455 Jess Soong / 014-6425083 Clifford Richards/ 03-79581848 or at wlfinearts@gmail.com.
We also offer a very large range of prices, outlook and prices to suite your each and every need, deco and budget.
We shall e-mail you a rental agreement which lists the title of the artworks, the value of the artworks, the cost of rental per artwork for the rental period and the costs of any freight or installation of the artworks. You must then return back the signed and completed rental agreement. This will include copies and details of a current mykad (locals) or passport (foreigners). These details act as security for us and the artist.
You are responsible for the artworks during the rental period. We recommend that you add the artworks to your current home or business insurance policy.
Charges:
To make it easier, we charge rental as a percentage of the value of the artwork. That way you can work out how much your rental will cost when you are making the selection of artworks. You can rent your artwork for as short period like just for an event with a minimum of rm70.
Payment is due in full before the artworks are delivered. Payment can be in the form of cheque, cash or equivalent. Funds must be cleared before artworks are delivered.
When your artwork arrives you will find an inspection checklist that has been completed by us. This just documents the condition of the artwork for you. Fill out your section and send it to us within a week of receipt of the artworks. If you disagreed with anything on the checklist, let us know immediately. WLFA will arrange the delivery of your artwork.
You will be invoiced for the delivery and return freight. All artworks are ready to be hung. You are responsible for the hangings of artworks.
End of the hire period:
We will contact you a week before your hire period finishes to see if you want to extend your rental agreement. In most cases, for long term contracts the duration is for one year of rental and we would change the set of paintings with new sets every 4 months. If the artwork is available for lease after the hired period, we will send you another rental agreement to cover the new rental period.
It is your responsibility to return the artworks to us on time. We can organize this for you using our in house carriers or external parties.
Purchasing during rental period:
If you would like to buy any of the artworks you have rented, you can do so with a generous discount. We will discount the value of the first 3 months rental on that artwork. So in effect, you will have rented that artwork for 3 months for free. Otherwise, please do contact us.
So how much does it cost to rent an artwork?
We make it easy for you to work out how much any artwork exhibited will cost you. The longer the rental contract, the cheaper it is per month. All prices are calculated as a percentage of the sale price of the artwork. If you’d like a large number of works, we will negotiate a special deal for you.

ART TUTORIAL :The Art of Investing in Art
Artist : Jai
Art as an investment avenue has been considered an interesting andprofitable alternative, but it is also extremely risky.
With uncertain stock market returns and interest rates at their lowestin decades, nervous investors are now considering alternativeinvestment avenues.
Some of them are hoping to find solace inalternative investments such as fine art, wine and even stamps.
These alternative investments' performance is alluring. Indicestracking the performance of high-class art have held up well in therecent economic slowdown, while art-auction houses report recordprices.
Art as an object of investment has been debated for long. However, inthe age of 20% returns on stock markets and a long bull market, theconcept of art as an investment option was passed over.
But the corporate scandals, stock market losses and low interest rateshave helped it to re-emerge.
In one of the niost prominent examples ofart investing, British Rail pension fund invested 2.9% of itsportfolio in the 1970s earning a return of 40o pa. above inflationtill 1999.
Virginia Wilson, an art consultant from Australia, says, "Art has beenan attractive investment for centuries and is becoming increasinglyrecognized as it has outperformed more conservative investments overthe last few decades.
It is an alternative investment earning capitalgains rather than a dividend."Art can never be considered as financial asset.
Critics contend thatinvesting in art disregards the traditional yardsticks of financialanalysis, since they do not generate income streams that can bediscounted. It is a bet on the price appreciation of something whosevalue defies financial logic.
Bill Muysken, Global Head of Research, Mercer Investment Consulting, feels, "Artworks do not generate any income, except to the extent thatincome can be obtained from lending them to galleries, and they incurnegative income in the form of storage and associated costs.
Whilst some artworks have appreciated enormously in value over time,it is difficult to make a case for artworks overall earning a positivenet rate of return in real terms over the long run."
But advocates of art investing argue with growing volume of supportinganalysis. Prominent among them are from professors Jianping Mei andMichael Moses, at New York University's Stern School of Business, whofound that art has outperformed S&P 500 (excluding transaction costs, since they are not included in stock market indices such as the S&P500 eitber) in the past 50 years.
From 1875 to 2000 art has outperformed fixed income, butunderperformed equities. And in the past two and half years of stockmarket losses, art has outperformed equities.
For frightened investors this may sound soothing. But art is high-riskinvestment, riskier than stocks.
Prices of art fluctuate more widelythan stocks.Art market is illiquid, opaque and unregulated. Transaction costs aretoo high, sometimes up to 25% and may in fact wipe out the profits.Further, the money invested in art is at the mercy of erratic publictaste and short-lived trends.Above all, art's unpredictable value makes it as easy to lose as toprofit.
However, Wolfgang Wilke, Vice-President, Dresdner Bank'sEconomics Department, who has been researching on this topic for thelast 20 years, feels, art investment is high risk only if the selectedinvestment period is too short.
In the short-term, market volatility is relatively high compared withother asset classes. But over the long-term -- experience suggests 10 years and more --investment in art provides annual average returns, which topall-coniers. The prerequisite is investment in top-quality art.
